Course Objectives
The course Perform Information Collection Development aims to equip learners with the competencies required to manage and maintain information resources effectively. By the end of the unit, learners should be able to:
•     Assess user needs and compile new inventory requests in line with organizational requirements.
•     Conduct systematic weeding of outdated or irrelevant information materials to maintain a relevant collection.
•     Generate and document disposal lists for information materials, ensuring proper sorting, packaging, and labeling as per institutional procedures.
•     Apply professional standards in inventory management, weeding, and disposal to support efficient information services.
•     Demonstrate accountability and accuracy in handling information materials throughout their lifecycle.

Assignment
Learners will be required to complete practical assignments that simulate real workplace scenarios. These may include:
•     Preparing a new inventory request based on a case study of user needs.
•     Conducting a weeding exercise by identifying outdated materials and documenting the process.
•     Compiling a disposal list and demonstrating proper packaging and labeling of materials for removal.
Assignments will emphasize hands-on practice, critical thinking, and adherence to professional procedures.

Credit
This unit carries credit towards the Library and Information Services qualification framework under TVET CDACC. Successful completion of the unit demonstrates competence in:
•     Inventory compilation and documentation.
•     Weeding and disposal of information materials.
•     Application of work procedures in information collection development.
Credits earned contribute to progression within the broader qualification pathway in Library and Information Science.
